A new series of tea festivals across Australia in 2026 is about to launch and its inaugural event will be in Melbourne at Abbotsford Convent’s historic Magdalen Laundry on Saturday 28 March. Chakabuki Tea Tasting Session

Chakabuki is a traditional tea guessing game which started around the era of Kamakura (1185 to 1333). In our chakabuki session, you’ll engage in blind-tasting and guess which tea you drank using your sensory. No need to be familiar with Japanese tea nor tea overall. International Tea Day 2022

We’re heading to a beautiful riverside park to celebrate the International Tea Day (May 21) this year. AUSTCS (Australian Tea Cultural Society) organized the Melbourne Tea Party at Fairfield Park in Melbourne. Bring your tea or hot water to share! Book your spot here. See you then!

Kagoshimacha -T Passport by Okei-san

In this session, we’ll be joined experienced Japanese tea producers from Kagoshima this time. They have been growing tea for generations in Soo City where is located in the north-east of Kagoshima Prefecture. It has a very similar geography to Uji in Kyoto where is famous for producing premium tea. The dedicated tea farmers will guide us on Kagoshimacha focusing on Soocha. You’ll learn about Japanese tea including Japanese black tea called wakocha and an aged Japanese green tea (tea leaves that have been matured over three years after plucked from tea fields!)

You’ll receive a set of tea samples to taste during and after the session. If you have any burning questions, there is Q & A time at the end. The number of tea sets are limited so get in quick! It starts from 3pm on Saturday 20th November for approximately an hour. Please make a booking here.

Australian Tea Cultural Society will held the virtual seminar this October. The annual seminar goes online on the 3rd of October. Japanese Tea 101 is back! This time they will be online so you can access our session any place in Australia. The Japanese tea introductory course will be conducted twice with the same content so please select the one which is convenient for you.

Shizuokacha -T Passport by Okei-san-

We’ll invite a tea expert of Sanwa Co.,Ltd as a guide for drinking Shizuoka tea. He’ll share his knowledge and experiences while we sip their teas together. He’ll take us a field and factory trip virtually! If you have burning questions, there is Q & A time. You’ll receive a set of tea samples to taste. Teapot stories from Japan -T Passport by Okei-san-

Yukiko who runs a family-run hardware business with his father in Kagoshima is a guest speaker for this T Passport session. She selects kyusu, Japanese teapots, for their store. There are a wide range of kyusu in Japan, and they are created using different cray and techniques. It means some of them suit your favourite tea but not all. So we’ll find out the best kyusu for your needs as she shares her deep knowledge about the teaware and give us tips how to select the teapot. Please make a booking here. This session has finished!

Tea Cocktail and Mocktail Making Online Workshop -T Passport by Okei-san-

Japanese tea cocktail and mocktail will be introduced by a skilled and experienced bartender from Japan. We’ll invite a Japanese experienced bartender and one of TOP 10 Tio Pepe Challenge 2020* finalists in Japan, and learn how to make attractive and delicious tea drinks at home or restaurants. Tea Talk at Heidi 2021

Uncle Dave, an indigenous Elder from Wurundjeri, will join us as a guest speaker to talk about Australian indigenous tea. During the session, you’ll learn about different tea cultures as well. Green Tea Introduction in March 2021

Where is green tea grown? How is it processed? What makes it different to other kinds of tea? Curious about what the major differences are between a Japanese Green Tea and a Chinese Green Tea? Japanese Tea Flight 2020

The popular Japanese tea flight class is back! We traveled to tea production areas in Japan last few months. We tasted many cups of Japanese teas (!) and learnt them. Now it’s your turn to taste them! Among the teas, Kamikatsuawabancha which is one of rare dark tea in Japan will be included. Japan Culture and Art Festival 2019

Find Okei-san at the Japan Culture and Art Festival this October. We’ll have a stall at the festival from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 27th October. Free Style Ochazuke Party! in September

This free style ochazuke party is a pop-up event collaboration between Fuji Tei (a very popular Japanese restaurant in St. Kilda), JP LInk Australia (Japanese rice disributor) and us. To bring the unique and ultimate experience, Fuji Tei will prepare sashimi using fresh fish on the day while JP Link Australia will bring special Japanese rice which is directly sourced from rice farmers in Japan. This very special tea tasting workshop will be conducted from 3pm to 4.30pm on Saturday 21st July. You will build up the knowledge about Japanese tea including the tips of brewing methods.
